The heart of the Martinborough wine village
Established in 1882, Peppers Martinborough Hotel is a historic retreat offering luxury, boutique accommodation near Wellington, at the heart of Martinborough Wine Village - one of New Zealand's finest wine destinations. Martinborough is a quirky little village of just 1300 people, encircled by 30 vineyards – most of which are within walking distance from the hotel - and with a leafy square at its heart. This picturesque wine village is situated in the Wairarapa region on the North Island, 75 minutes drive east of Wellington, and three hours south of Hawkes Bay.
Taking pride of place at the entrance to the square is Peppers Martinborough Hotel. Developer Edmund Buckeridge described it in 1882 as "one of the finest hostelries ever erected in any inland town in New Zealand". The hotel hasn't forgotten its past, and it's that sense of history and place that will charm you as soon as you step in the front door - from the battered suitcase of a gentleman traveller at the top of the stairs, to the accommodation's sloping floors and olden day sketches of local personalities adorning the walls.
